Opportunities with screen installations in foil greenhouses?
Jack from SchermNed believes that there is still a lot to be gained from screen installations in foil greenhouses. “You can do a lot more with it than growers often do now. If growers look beyond the sharpness of light screens, they can earn a good return on a screen installation. I am convinced of that. For example, a screen can also help cool the greenhouse climate slightly and extend the season. This allows growers to grow products of even better quality.”
The experienced screen specialist points out that ten years ago, a lot was still being learned about the use of screens in high-tech markets such as the Netherlands and Belgium. “I remember that a grower once, despite the presence of a double screen in the greenhouse, still coated the greenhouse roof. Some people were surprised by that, but he had seen it smartly. The grower prevented blossom end rot with the intervention, sacrificed slightly in production, but gained much more in quality.”
Gauze, another product that SchermNed can handle, is used less specifically for the foil greenhouse market. “With the mesh systems they work with here, we currently offer little technical added value with our convection mesh systems.” First, more screens. “Luckily Jack has more patience than me,” Gerrit laughs. “All lines have been plotted, we have a van driving around here and making our name known. You learn something new every day. We are busy gaining a foothold. We have great systems to offer. I am sure that if you put something beautiful in these markets, the grower sees what it yields and can also offer you good local service, then you have a right to exist, also in this market.”
