Project Holland Plant & FortaPlant: Replacing Harmonic Netting in Practice

Project Holland Plant & FortaPlant: Replacing Harmonic Netting in Practice

Twenty years after the first installations of harmonic insectnetting, a new phase is emerging. While these systems have performed reliably for many years, we now see that replacement is becoming increasingly relevant. Many of these installations have reached the end of their technical lifespan, and we are among the first to actively carry out replacement projects at growers such as Holland Plant and FortaPlant.

In 2005, we completed one of our first large-scale installations of accordion insectnetting for these growers in the Netherlands. At that time, insect netting was rapidly gaining traction as a response to stricter regulations and increasing pressure from insects and viruses. These systems have proven their value over the years, but we now see that the earliest installations are approaching the end of their service life. Based on our practical experience, we can clearly identify when a system reaches its limits. Wear and tear often occurs gradually, for example due to dust and dirt buildup in the folds or tension on the netting. Because this process develops slowly, the need for replacement is not always immediately recognized, even though it directly affects the effectiveness of the system.

During replacement, the entire system is reassessed. Vent openings and connections are remeasured with millimetre precision. Even small deviations can lead to tension and accelerated wear over time. By redefining all dimensions, we create the foundation for a precise and durable installation. The new harmonic insectnetting is then installed with the highest level of accuracy. Depending on the project, we either manage the full installation process with our own installation team or supply the netting with supervision and guidance during installation. This ensures that the system will perform optimally again for many years and continues to do what it is designed for.
