Burgers' Zoo
A special purpose
SchermNed and Burgers' Zoo have in common that they are both family businesses. There is no guarantee that the mangrove will actually produce results. However, the family behind Burgers' Zoo felt it was important to see it through, because in this way they want to raise awareness of the threat to natural mangroves.
The role of SchermNed
SchermNed was involved in the development of the outdoor screen as a climate and sun protection system in conjunction with the arch construction of the mangrove. The materials used are mainly aluminum, galvanized R.V.S. material and a polyester cloth. Our salesman Carl Stougie found this to be a special project to work on because of the client and their vision. SchermNed's 60m diameter dome awning is the largest in the world.
Sustainability and safety
The mangrove was built with an emphasis on sustainability. For example, energy is generated by solar panels on the roof. SchermNed's work is partly aimed at imitating the climate conditions of the animals perfectly. Even if it is -10° C outside, inside the climate must be pleasant for animals & plants.
