Project visit in the USA: Texas & Virginia

Halfway through October Ruben Voois (project leader) and Jack van der Voort (director) boarded the plane to America on behalf of SchermNed for two project visits in Texas and Virginia. In both projects new greenhouses are being built by our partner Van Der Hoeven Horticultural Projects.

Our SchermNed men visited these projects for project and planning consultations with Van Der Hoeven's side manager and to carry out technical quality checks. As Jack van der Voort himself called it, "Attention makes everything more beautiful.

Project Texas

Crop: Lettuce

Surface area of screen installation: approx. 54,000 m2

First on the agenda was a visit to Texas. The greenhouse builder Van Der Hoeven is building a new greenhouse there in which the customer will grow lettuce. For this beautiful project, we provided a double screen installation with VSV system, 12 roll wall screens and harmonica netting.

The customer uses 90% less water and land than traditional agriculture. Using our screen installations to create the perfect environmental conditions in the greenhouse ensures the highest possible nutritional value and taste of their sustainable product.

For the double screen installation, Ludvig Svensson's OBSCURA 9950 FR W exposure cloth and HARMONY 2045 VK FR energy cloth are used. The technical installation has now been completed and in a few weeks the cloth will be pulled. After this, the harmonica mesh will be installed in 262 vents.

Project Virginia

Crop: Lettuce

Surface area of screen installation: approx. 70,000 m2

After the project visit in Texas, Jack and Ruben boarded the plane to Virginia. Here, too, Van Der Hoeven is realizing a new construction project. In these greenhouses, just like in Texas, lettuce will be grown in a sustainable way.

For this project in Virginia, we are providing a double screen installation with VSV system, 4 roll wall screens and harmonica netting. This greenhouse is enclosed all around, requiring only roll wall screens for the climate chamber.

The same Svensson exposure fabric (OBSCURA 9950 FR W) was used for this screen installation. A partially open energy cloth, Svensson's HARMONY 2047 O 1/70 FR cloth, was chosen for the second screen.

The cloths are installed as late as possible on both projects to ensure that the screen cloth remains as clean as possible upon installation. This is because a lot of dust is blown up during construction due to the earthworks. This is made possible by using the ValkScreenVision cloth retraction system, also known as the VSV system. This system pulls the screen fabric directly into the profile and eliminates the need for fabric clips. The VSV fabric retraction system is thus a great system for working cleanly, ensuring safety and working flexibly, which benefits planning.
