Successful installation of the SchermNed Insectnetting Filter System at Vreugdenhil Young Plants and Klugt Quality Plants (VKB)

Successful installation of the SchermNed Insectnetting Filter System at Vreugdenhil Young Plants and Klugt Quality Plants (VKB)

Recently, we started a large-scale project at VKB, located at Noordlierweg 15, where two teams are installing our SchermNed Insect Filter System. This innovative system provides excellent protection against insects without compromising ventilation or light transmission.

  • Cultivation: Cultivating of plantmaterial
  • Location: De Lier
  • Installation type: SchermNed insect netting filter system

A Thoughtful Solution for Optimal Growing Conditions
The insect netting is specially designed for easy application in both existing and newly built greenhouses, without requiring modifications to the ventilation mechanism. This ensures maximum efficiency with minimal impact on the greenhouse structure. At VKB, approximately 1,800 ventilation windows are now being fitted with insect netting. In these greenhouses, with a post height of 5.50 meters, ventilation window dimensions of 3.60 x 1.40 meters, and a maximum window opening of 900 mm, the system is fully integrated with the existing span-trail ventilation mechanism.

Quality and Durable Installation

Our installation approach ensures a solid and long-lasting attachment:

  • The insect netting is secured around the window opening to the greenhouse roof.
  • Aluminum strips and plastic cord provide a firm attachement.
  • Pushers pass through specially designed netting sleeves, which are then clamped shut.
  • When the ventilation windows open, the netting moves smoothly upward without risk of damage.
  • The netting itself is made of high-quality 100% HDPE, with a mesh size of 0.27 x 0.77 mm, UV stability of 1,350 KLY, and minimal shading of only 15%.

Efficient Project Execution

The installation takes place within the optimal assembly period (March/April), before the ventilation windows are frequently used again and the risk of insect intrusion is highest. The installation, which is carried out using aerial work platforms, has been carefully planned to align with the tight schedule of Vreugdenhil Young Plants en Klugt Quality Plants. We are able to complete the work within the short period when the sections are empty and available. We are now proud of the results and look forward to the benefits this system will bring for the cultivation of warm vegetable plants, ornamental young plants, and Pick-&-Joy at VKB.
