Another wonderful screen and mesh project at our 'west' neighbors
In Suffolk England, SchermNed has successfully completed another unique project. The Suffolk region near the town of Ipswisch is known as the glass city of England, something that we as a Westland company immediately feel a connection with.
The greenhouse “Sterling Suffolk” is the first semi-closed greenhouse in the United Kingdom and contains an area of 9 acres. The project is divided into several phases. The first phase was completed in 2020 and now the second phase has also been completed. The greenhouse grows a variety of smaller vine tomatoes such as cherry, cocktail and baby plum tomatoes.
In the first phase, SchermNed realized 6 hectares of screen installations, this had gone perfectly and therefore the contract for the second phase was also awarded to us on behalf of client Van der Hoeven. Under the supervision of SchermNed Project Leader Peter van der Lingen, we provided 232 windows with harmonica insect netting. We also realized 4 single screen installations with a total surface area of 28,080 m2 and mounted the crop wires.
The harmonica insect netting will be used to keep out insects that can bring viruses. Luxous 1147 FR, an energy-saving screen cloth from our supplier Ludvig Svensson, was used for the screen installation. The cloth allows sufficient light through combined with optimal energy conservation and moisture permeability. The screen cloth provides a better growing climate in winter and offers the possibility of keeping the screen closed for several hours during the day.
