Project visit in USA: Texas & Virginia

In October, Ruben Voois (project manager) and Jack van der Voort (director) from SchermNed went to America to visit two project in Texas and Virginia. Both projects involve newly build greenhouses by our partner Van Der Hoeven Horticultural Projects.

Our SchermNed team visited these projects for project and planning meetings with Van Der Hoeven's site manager and to conduct technical quality checks. As Jack van der Voort himself put it: "Attention makes everything more beautiful."

Project Texas

Crop:  Lettuce
Surface screen installation:         approx. 54.000 m2

First stop was Texas. In Texas, greenhouse builder Van Der Hoeven is constructing a new greenhouse where the client will grow lettuce. For this project, we provided a double screen installation with VSV system, 12 rolling façade screens, and harmonica insect netting system.

The client uses 90% less water and land than traditional agriculture. By creating the perfect environmental conditions in the greenhouse with our screen installations, we ensure the highest possible nutritional value and taste of their sustainable product.

For the double screen installation, Ludvig Svensson's OBSCURA 9950 FR W lighting screen and HARMONY 2045 VK FR energy screen are used. The technical installation has been completed, and in a few weeks, the screen will be pulled. After that, the harmonica insect netting  system will be installed in 262 ventilation windows.

Project Virginia

Crop:  Lettuce
Surface screen installation:        approx. 70.000 m2

After the project visit in Texas, Jack and Ruben went to Virginia. At this location, Van Der Hoeven is also realizing a new project. Lettuce will be grown sustainably in these greenhouses, just like in Texas.

For this project in Virginia, we are providing a double screen installation with VSV system, 4 rolling façade screens, and the harmonica insect netting system. This greenhouse is fully enclosed, so the rolling façade screens are only needed for the climate chamber.

For this screen installation, the same Svensson lighting screen (OBSCURA 9950 FR W) is used. For the second screen, a partially open energy screen was chosen, the Svensson's HARMONY 2047 O 1/70 FR.

The screens are installed as late as possible in both projects to ensure that the screen remains as clean as possible during installation. During construction, a lot of dust is kicked up due to ground work. This is made possible by using the ValkScreenVision screen insertion system, also known as the VSV system. This system pulls the screen directly into the profile, eliminating the need for screen clips. Therefore, the VSV screen insertion system is a great way to work cleanly, maintain safety, and work flexibly, benefiting the overall planning.
